iPad Spirit Jailbreak Available for Download

iPad-Spirit-Jailbreak-download-4.0

The iPhone/iPad Spirit Jailbreak is finally out for download for both Mac and PC! Do beware that it’s sorta still in beta, so use at your own risk.

What’s Spirit?

  • Spirit is an untethered jailbreak for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch on the latest firmwares.
  • Spirit is not a carrier unlock.
  • If you currently are using a tethered jailbreak, you have to restore to use Spirit. Do not upgrade if you use an unlock on an iPhone 3G or 3GS. (You can, however, restore to 3.1.2 if you have SHSH blobs for that version.)

Requirements

  • Any iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch on firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2.
  • An activated device: one not stuck on the Connect to iTunes or Emergency Call screen.
  • Any version of iTunes 9 (including 9.1.1).
  • Syncing with iTunes before trying this highly recommended.

Note: On iPad, all this is still sort of beta. Some packages in Cydia, not designed for iPad, might screw up your system and require you to restore. Be careful. (And no, Cydia’s appearance is not final.)

Just last week, the iPhone dev-team announced that they have root access on the iPad, and now it looks like the team has also completed in installing cydia on the iPad as well.

No downloads and further details are available to the public as of yet, but Geohot or the iPhone Dev-Team will very soon release a download for their iPad jailbreak software. Geohot is known for his easy to use iPhone and now iPad jailbreak software, and the iPhone Dev-Team jailbreak software is always the most stable.

Note that Geohot have said that he won’t release his iPad jailbreak software before the 3G iPad models is out.

We’ll update you guys on their progress and have download links when they’re ready.

The iPhone OS 3.2 beta SDK has been available for just about 2 days now. And today, engadget has uncovered some interesting groundwork being laid in iPhone OS 3.2 that could possibly hint at future software features and the next generation of iPad.

According to a trusted source of engadget, there’s some basic support within iPhone OS 3.2 for video calling, which explains the empty space at where a front facing camera would have been perfect in the leaked iPad photo. Front facing camera in the iPad 2?

“We’re told that there are hooks to accept and decline a video conference, flip a video feed (which suggests a front-facing camera) and — most importantly — run the video call in either full screen mode or in just a portion of the screen. That means you’ll be able to chat and do other things at the same time, which could mean there’s at least some type of multitasking going on here. “

There’s also some code buried in iPhone OS 3.2 suggesting support for file download in the browser and mysteriously, SMS and phone capabilities. However, the SMS and Phone part as noted by our editor Christopher Kirk, could simply be some left over iPhone code. Only time will tell.
